Startup Alleghenies helps startup and emerging small businesses succeed by providing free coaching to entrepreneurs in Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fulton, Huntingdon and Somerset counties.
Alleghenies Marketplace is a multivendor e-commerce platform built for entrepreneurs in Central Pennsylvania. It enables users to sell their products online, fostering economic growth in the region.
Development of the local economy in the Central Pennsylvania Region requires that early-stage businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs have access to tools that enable digital transformation. The purpose of the Alleghenies Marketplace is to remove barriers to entry so small-mid-sized businesses can conduct trade online. The establishment of a company’s digital footprint is essential for those looking to grow and attract revenue from both within and beyond the Region.
A project of this scale has many moving parts, and our team continues to play a pivotal role in managing the multivendor marketplace. Our initial project sat at the intersection of design and development, involving various team members as we constructed the WordPress/WooCommerce website, brought the client's designs to life, and engineered custom solutions to satisfy some of the organizations unique requirements. We also integrated various third-party solutions from e-signature providers to shipping APIs into the platform to ensure a more seamless experience for the various vendors who would use the Marketplace as a springboard for building their business online. Upon the soft launch of the project, our role quickly transitioned to that of business consultant and product manager. Our ongoing work in support of the Marketplace's initiative includes regularly consulting project stakeholders during data/performance reviews, supporting budding entrepreneurs by introducing best practices for digital growth, and responding to and processing feature requests, supporting end customers, and fixing the occasional bug as the different softwares integrated release new updates.
The Alleghenies Marketplace is a pioneering initiative designed to empower entrepreneurs in Central Pennsylvania by providing them with a versatile multivendor e-commerce platform. This innovative system allows local business owners to easily set up and manage their online storefronts, offering their products to a wider customer base. By bringing together a diverse range of products from various local entrepreneurs, the Alleghenies Marketplace aims to stimulate economic growth in the region.
This platform not only offers entrepreneurs an opportunity to expand their businesses beyond traditional brick-and-mortar stores but also encourages community collaboration. It promotes the unique products and talents of Central Pennsylvania, fostering a sense of local identity and pride. Through this project, we hope to boost the region's economic vitality by creating a thriving online marketplace where local businesses can thrive and customers can discover the rich diversity of products and services available in the Alleghenies.
