Improving SEO Performance and Understanding What Drives Organic Visibility

Improving SEO performance is crucial for any business aiming to reach its audience online. The ability to create and publish content has become simpler than ever, which makes finding pieces of content more difficult than ever. To ensure you stand out, your brand needs to optimize your content for search engine visibility.

At W.D. Strategies, we strive to improve our clients’ SEO performance through the use of digital solutions and expert insight. Our SEO services help businesses get found online. They can expect a comprehensive solution that will help improve their local listings, generate new content, and create backlinks to increase online visibility.

To help illustrate how we serves our clients, consider the case of a company (that we’ll refer to as Company X) that sought our services to improve their SEO performance. By emphasizing on-page SEO, adjusting metadata, creating SEO content, and preparing backlinks campaigns, Company X experienced swift and significant growth in their SEO visibility. Let’s go over how we approached Company X’s situation.

Our goal: Improve SEO performance and boost organic rankings

While SEO performance is integral for marketing success in the digital landscape, where each business needs to improve in its approach may differ. There are a lot of individual components that contribute to a brand’s overall SEO visibility, and they will each require a deliberate approach. So before we make any decisions with our clients, we make sure that we have an effective grasp on where they need to seek improvement.

In the case of Company X, our efforts were geared towards seeking improvements in a few key areas, including impressions (how many searches Company X appeared in), improving their domain authority (measured by Ahrefs rankings), and listings (mentions of your identifying business info in local directories and other areas).

With our initiatives that included creating tailored SEO content and extensive backlink campaigns, Company X improved in each of these areas and has seen significant increases in customer inquiries and–ultimately–an impact on their bottom line. Let’s go over the data and see how Company X’s improvement is reflected in the numbers.

Result: Increased Impressions, new 1st page queries, and improved search rankings in multiple categories

To begin, let’s observe the Google Search Console results to see how Company X’s impressions improved since the beginning of our work together. According to these data, Company X’s SEO visibility improved by around 10% after the first month and beyond in subsequent months, which is reflected below in their ~34,000 increased impressions. This means that through our efforts, they appeared in around 34,000 more search results than they previously had.

Understanding what Google Search Console Results tell us

You may also notice that Company X appears in new queries on the first page of a Google search. This shows that Company X is now ranking on the very first page of Google search results for entirely new terms.

Next, let’s peek at Company X’s Ahrefs rankings, and how they also showed improvement.

This image shows where Company X’s Ahrefs rankings were before our work together.

This shows their progress after a period of working with us.

As you can see, Company X experienced an improvement in its Domain Rank and their URL rank, which highlight a page’s SEO strength on a 100-point scale, with 1 being the lowest, and 100 being the highest. For URL Rank, they went from 23 to 32, and for Domain Rank, they went from 20 to 21. Without context, these numbers may seem insignificant, but with Ahrefs Rankings, the 20s are a significant hurdle for improvement.

URL Rating (UR) shows the strength of a target page’s link profile on a 100-point scale. If you analyze a domain, the homepage’s UR is shown.

Domain Rating (DR) shows the strength of a target website’s backlink profile compared to the others in our database on a 100-point scale

Making movement here is an important sign of progress as even moving one point (like from 23 to 24 for example) is more difficult than moving many points elsewhere along the scale (like from 1 to 4 for example).

One last item to point out: you may notice the area that says traffic value. This is in reference to how much you would have to spend (in theory) on Google Ads to receive the same amount of traffic as you’re gaining organically. As you can see, our efforts helped provide tangible value to Company X’s marketing activities.
